Unfortunately, none of my “pink ladies” lived in my neighborhood, so when I got home from school, I was often lonely. My mother met a woman down the street who had a daughter about my age, so she asked her to babysit me from time to time. Her daughter was a real-life Veruca Salt. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, step away from your computer right now and go watch the original Willy Wonka.
I would rather you remember the better parts of your father than the bad parts. We were both treated differently by family members because we looked like our fathers. Sad but true.
I miss taking you out into the front yard with a couple of empty mason jars we cajoled from Grandma and catching fireflies at dusk. You were always fascinated by them.
This story was tough, but you were definitely loved. You very much at that confusing age. Some understood and some to young for a little girl like you! I totally get it. The beginnings of a girl understanding, but not comprehending exactly what it meant. You were very protective at that age. ❤️
