We got Gracie the Conure from Beth Witt and her husband. I don't know if you remember Gracie...she had gray wings and she quoted Honeymooner lines...I think we started out babysitting her for them when they went somewhere on furlough and she just...never left. I don't know if you remember the corn snake I had in the terrarium or Garfield the cat who was terrified of said snake for some reason. I think I also had an emperor scorpion and a rosy tipped tarantula at some point. I know mom never liked putting her hands in our pockets to empty them out when it was time for laundry.
I think Bob used to also manage that restaurant on the main road in Chinle because I distinctly remember him always bringing over fried shrimp. Or maybe he was really good friends with the manager? We were always getting free food there.
You know the crazy thing about that house in Garland? I could probably draw you the blueprints to the inside..like where the rooms, doors, and windows were. There was a huge honeysuckle hedge covering the perimeter of the backyard fence and a boysenberry tree right outside the back door from the kitchen that had the tastiest berries on it and made the worst mess.
I remember every detail about that house too which I find hard to believe. Whenever I walk past a honeysuckle, I think about that place. Thank you for commenting btw. I love it.
I love reliving some of these memories with you...my memories are more like 30 second movie soundbites...flashes of color, pops of noises, hints of feelings and muted smells.
Maybe we remember the house so well because it was the first place we ever lived that wasn't a trailer. It was an actual HOME and we had separate spaces to call our own and paint with our personalities. I could cover my room and walls in movie posters, carefully mounted insects and star charts and you could have....Rainbow Brite. 😁😉
My Grandmother and grandfather used to own most of camelbak mountain in Paradise Valley near Phoenix. The lightning storms there are amazing. It was the first time I’d ever seen lightning being from CA. We’d sneak out and sit in the hammock and watch till we fell asleep. I love these stories. keep going!!
Oh wow really? I've hiked there and love it. The storms there are simply the best. I'm glad you were able to lay outside and take it in. It is *magic*.
Sitting outside in rain and thunder during monsoon is what I miss the most about Lahore. I used to block the drain on the roof with bricks and splash in the pooled water. I once cut my foot with a piece of glass that somehow got into my pool. It's my favorite scar.
In Lahore we eat fried food to celebrate monsoon. I lived in Vancouver for two years and spent my first two months eating/craving fried food before I was able to convince myself that it's not that kind of rain. :)

It’s the best right?!

If you get a chance, go sit in a monsoon in Arizona. You won't regret it.
